Congressional internships often serve as a stepping stone for future careers as staffers. Because of this, it is critical that we support interns throughout their Hill and district office experiences. Supporting interns is crucial in attracting and retaining qualified staff members in government. These resources and articles will help interns make the most of their internships and open the door to careers in public service.

POPVOX Senior Fellow Nicole Tisdale is the author of Right to Petition: A Practical Guide to Creating Change in Government with Political Advocacy Tools and Tips, a guide to help citizens navigate Congress. The Intern Primer series is inspired by “Right to Petition” and is here to help Congressional interns.

Tisdale served on the House Committee on Homeland Security for 10 years before joining the National Security Council as Director for Legislative Affairs. After working on Capitol Hill, she founded Advocacy Blueprints, a company focused on advocacy training and consulting. Tisdale received both her J.D (‘09) and B.A (‘06) from the University of Mississippi.
