Citizen / Consumer: A POPVOX Foundation Discussion with Jon Alexander

  • 438 New Jersey Avenue Southeast Washington, DC, 20003 United States (map)

New Citizenship Project co-founder Jon Alexander sees three "stories" for how we interact with the world:

  • The consumer story, where we are self-interested and disconnected, capable only of choosing between options already set out for us,

  • The subject story, where we abrogate our agency to strong leaders, driven by fear and uncertainty as the consumer story collapses, and

  • The citizen story, where we are creative, caring, tapped into the emergent wisdom of community, and actively involved in the decisions that shape our lives.

Shifting our political narratives from one to the other, he argues, could revolutionize not only politics, but, frankly, everything.

Join the POPVOX Foundation and members of the US civic engagement community for a wide-ranging, informal brunch discussion about the power of narrative in American and global democracy. This event will be co-hosted by the POPVOX Foundation and Dominic Campbell, co-founder of Impossible Ideas Inc.
