Supporting the Capitol Hill community
In January 2021, we joined organizations across the partisan spectrum in the #CapitolStrong effort to recognize and support those who work in Congress in the aftermath of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.
Our statement as the public hearings begin in the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the Capitol:
SUPPORTING THE CAPITOL HILL COMMUNITY
As public hearings begin in the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the Capitol, we recognize the Capitol Hill community and all who have been dealing with complex emotions and ongoing challenges as a result of that day.
Even those who were not physically present are impacted by the ripple effects of the breach that occurred that day, which transcended the trespass of an iconic building. January 6 and its aftermath pierced an illusion of safety and security in the Capitol, fomented mistrust among colleagues and impacted many relationships. The environment for those who work on Capitol Hill has unquestionably changed.
National attention now turns to this topic that is still visceral for those who work in Congress— from legislative staffers; to members of the maintenance, cleaning and building staff; cafeteria workers and the U.S. Capitol Police — and their families. The conversations and images will be difficult for many and we are holding them in our thoughts and honoring their service.
